Get To Know Jess
I have decided to start a blog! You may be thinking... so did everyone else and their mother’s brother! This blog is a place for me to share with you guys the experience of owning a business, the things I have learned, the products I have created, the funny and sometimes not so funny things that happen in the lab where I produce the products I sell, family life, favorite food recipes (yes I cook something other than soap), and maybe even some research that I follow that may help you and your family.
I hope you will join me on this journey where I will share with you from my heart as a Jesus loving wife, mom, business owner, small-town girl.
So first, for those of you who don’t know me... let me introduce myself. My name is Jessica Bashlor I am happily married to my husband Wally of almost 12 years, and together we have 3 beautiful children ages 6, 4, and almost 2. About 7 years ago I began my business, then known as Jess’s Soaps, now Soaps By Jess. I began Soaps By Jess from my home while I was working on my master’s degree in Counseling and Wally and I began building our family. I began initially selling my products I made in my kitchen through Facebook, and then I would either ship them or deliver to my local customers. I started this business with $45, I am not sure of the total amount that we have invested (that is Wally’s area of expertise) but I can tell you it is WAY beyond that first $45, there is a lot of blood, sweat, tears, time, and money that my husband and I have poured into this business over the last 7 years. It is all worth it! We love being able to provide the best skincare for at a fair price. It makes our heart so happy when we get to hear your stories of how our products have helped you, your children, family members, and friends. Seeing children’s eczema clear after using our products. You guys are our “why” we love making a difference in your life by providing more natural solutions for skincare and your home.
Outside of my business, it is a huge dream of mine to own my own counseling practice, and to practice counseling in my hometown of Clinton, NC. Why, you might ask? Well, there is no where locally that has offered my friends and family members the mental health solutions that they have needed, and it is primarily because in Clinton they don’t exist. I am passionate about making sure that everyone has somebody. The primary job of a counselor is to walk with you through whatever you may be going through. So one day, I will give back to my community in that way. In the meantime I will continue to build Soaps By Jess and continue to give back in that way. Eventually when the time comes for me to work in mental health, I will continue to own Soaps By Jess and will provide jobs within my community through this business.
I'd love to hear about what you are passionate about, how do you help your community? Drop your response in the comments.
With Love,
Jess

I saw that your shop offered so much more than the products that were being sold . I pray that you prosper and that the delights of your heart are made a reality. I really hope to visit you again soon !!

Hi, Jess. We met at Simply NC. I have the online art shop. I thought I’d leave you a comment for your brand new blog. I enjoy hearing about small business life and inspiration for it. I also enjoy psychology on an amateur level. I look forward to your future posts.
